Whale Extends Product Suite, Delivers Hybrid Solution with IPSec VPN, SSL VPN, Endpoint Security and Application Security Components in Single Appliance.
Fort Lee, NJ – Whale today announced that it is working with Microsoft to offer an integrated access solution combining Whale’s Intelligent Application Gateway and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004. This technology will provide one of the first solutions in the market to deliver IPSec VPN, SSL VPN, endpoint security and application security components in a single secure appliance.
The next generation access appliance will provide mid-tier enterprises with an easy to use solution for end-users and an easy to manage solution for IT professionals. It will enable anywhere access by a broader set of users to a broader set of applications and network resources than traditional access devices.
ISA Server 2004, part of the Microsoft Windows Server System, is an advanced application layer firewall, VPN and Web cache solution that enables customers to easily maximize existing IT investments by helping to improve network security and performance.
The hybrid appliance, which empowers organizations to let their business needs drive their access strategy while adhering to corporate and government mandated policies, allows enterprises to boost productivity by extending application and network resource access to a broader user base from a wider set of devices.
Whale’s hardware/software solution enables enterprises to leverage their existing application and network infrastructures to deliver hybrid IPSec tunneling and application layer SSL VPN access – accompanied by best-of-breed endpoint and application security — based on organizational needs and policies all from a single, secure and easily manageable gateway appliance.
“We are pleased that our pioneering technology is continuing to set the standards for application access across enterprises of all sizes. This hybrid solution is a first of its kind as it incorporates business-critical access technology, including IPSec VPN, SSL VPN, endpoint security and application security, becoming the new de facto business perimeter. Enterprises will see a greater return on their application and network investment while increasing productivity,” said Roger Pilc, Whale’s CEO. “As a market leader in business driven application access, we are in an ideal position to offer this solution. Enterprises now will be able to meet all of their business needs regarding access and connectivity. They will be able to maximize the SSL benefits of granular application and resource access from any device while providing secure IPSec access to users requiring full network connectivity – all the while complying with internal policies.”
“When it comes to security and access, our global technology partners are critical to the success of our mutual enterprise customers,” said Marcus Schmidt, Senior Product Manager, Enterprise Access & Security Products division Security Business and Technology Unit at Microsoft Corp. “Whale’s Intelligent Application Gateway products and expertise offer our mutual customers the ability to provide an integrated and complete access appliance that can run more securely and efficiently.”
The next generation access gateway includes:
. Maximized policy compliance
. Superior IPSec functionality
. Secure SSL VPN functionality
. Advanced application firewall capabilities
. Optimized forward and reverse proxies
. Comprehensive endpoint and application protection
. Convenient end-user experience
. Enhanced monitoring and reporting

The next generation Intelligent Application Gateway appliance based on ISA Server 2004 will be generally available in December 2005.
