Yoqne’am, Israel, May 12, 2010 – Wavion™, a technology leader in Metro Wi-Fi with a new generation of outdoor Wi-Fi base stations and Dateline, a leading system integrator in Russia, announced today the deployment of Wavion’s Wi-Fi solution for two new projects in Russia.
The projects are based on Wavion’s WBS-2400 base stations, operating in 2.4 GHz band. The first project is a Wi-Fi network deployment at the Moscow State University premises. This project will provide Wi-Fi access for the university students – the first stage of a larger information project for the University, lead by JSC CenterTelegraph, a Russian telecom carrier. The Moscow State University is the largest and oldest university in Russia, with more than 36,000 students. The second project is a metro Wi-Fi deployment in the city of Rybinsk, done for Telefonika, a rapidly growing ISP in Rybsink. This project will provide internet access to the city residents, thus significantly increasing the subscriber base for Telefonika.
“We have selected Wavion’s equipment for these challenging projects after careful and thorough analysis of many Wi-Fi solutions in our portfolio,” said Andrew Chesnokov, Dateline’s General Director. “Wavion’s robust and interference-immune outdoor Wi-Fi Base Stations, based on their unique beamforing and SDMA technologies is the only solution that has met our requirements in terms of range and performance in the congested 2.4GHz spectrum band and tough environmental conditions.”
“Wavion is proud to extend our Wi-Fi footprint in Russia and to expand its partnership with Dateline in these new projects”, said Alexei Machinsky, Wavion’s Regional VP Sales CIS and Eastern Europe. “Wavion’s Base Stations are currently available from Dateline’s stock in Moscow, thus significantly reducing our time-to-market in Russia.”
