Richard Stiennon of Anti-Spyware Provider Webroot and Former Senior Gartner Inc. Analyst, Brings More than 20 Years Experience to Whale’s Advisory Board.

Fort Lee, NJ, May 9, 2005 – Leading SSL VPN vendor Whale Communications today announced the appointment to its advisory board of Richard D. Stiennon, vice president of threat research at Webroot Software Inc., a producer of privacy protection and performance software.

Stiennon, formerly vice president of research and a top security industry analyst at Gartner Inc., led much of the coverage on security topics during his four years at Gartner and was a holder of Gartner’s Thought Leadership award for 2003. He also was named in 2004 “One of the 50 most power people in Networking” by Network World Magazine.

At Colorado-based Webroot, Stiennon now is applying his 20 years of experience in networking and security to identify emerging spyware and other security threats, working closely with the company’s development team to deliver comprehensive prevention and removal strategies.

“We are extremely pleased to have Richard on our advisory board,” said Daniel Steiner, president of Whale. “We look forward to leveraging his vast experience and contacts within leading enterprises and other IT vendors to augment our current successes.”

Recognized by industry analysts as a leader in the SSL VPN space and selected by Network Computing Magazine as the best SSL VPN solution in 2004, Whale’s technology offers exceptional flexibility. Its Application AwareT approach provides deep levels of security policy granularity, enhanced user experience and easy integration into existing network infrastructures and applications.

“Whale is a pioneer in the SSL VPN space, continuing to drive the technology development of secure remote access through its SSL VPN appliances,” said Stiennon. “I’m pleased to be in a position where I can use my experience to assist Whale in continuing to define the standards as a best-of-breed solution in this growing market segment.”
