XAP technology meets extreme performance SLAs, ensuring hardware and application efficiency
New York – March 31, 2010 – Cerner, the leading global supplier of healthcare technology solutions that optimize clinical and financial outcomes, has chosen GigaSpaces eXtreme Application Platform (XAP) to support its Cerner Health Information Exchange and Cerner Network services. Cerner will be enjoying significant operational and cost efficiencies thanks to XAP’s dynamic scaling capability, multi-tenancy support and ease of deployment.
“We sought a solution that would improve operations and efficiency while reducing costs,” says Kevin Smyth, vice president and chief information officer of Cerner. “We needed an application platform for addressing high availability, scalability, reliability and maintainability to be able to provide the ‘new middle’ in healthcare and found that GigaSpaces technology delivers a cost effective and robust means to better serve our clients.”
Cerner will be using XAP as the enabling middleware platform for its private cloud, hosting message interoperability solutions. The majority of the users are the IT systems of healthcare providers, payers and employers, which consume health information as a service. With XAP, Cerner will be able to do more with less — speeding application performance will enable Cerner to collapse several existing production solutions into a smaller hardware footprint while sharing multiple resources among its applications will bring further resources utilization.
GigaSpaces unique approach and support for varied environments frees Cerner from developing their applications for a specific deployment implementation, allowing their applications to be built for any environment – traditional, cloud and virtualized. Using XAP as the platform, Cerner will enjoy a larger separation between development and deployment strategies and phases, which is not the case with their current system.
Before making a purchasing decision, the Cerner team compared XAP’s technology and features other solutions. As part of the assessment, XAP demonstrated linear scalability, significantly lower latency and throughput (benchmarked to be at least twice of the current production solution), and robust rolling downtime processes.
