TrapX Security’s DeceptionGrid Receives Positive Marks in SC Magazine Review

Product Recognized for Military Heritage, Ease of Deployment and Straightforward Approach to Operationalization

SAN MATEO, CA – February 5, 2016 – TrapX Security™, a global leader in advanced cyber security defense, today announced that the company’s DeceptionGrid™ has received positive marks in SC Magazine’s February 2016 review of active breach detection solutions. The full review is available here:

In an eight-vendor grouping, SC Magazine reviewer Peter Stephenson wrote, “Overall, we liked [DeceptionGrid]. Its military heritage is evident in its simple deployment and straightforward approach to operationalization of the deception process. It interoperates with just about any SIEM so a key part of its operationalization is getting actionable data to the SIEM so that the SIEM can take appropriate action.”

Unlike perimeter-based platforms that sit at the network’s edge and act as a first line of defense against intruders, deception technology sits inside an organization’s network and catches attackers that have slipped past traditional perimeter and endpoint solutions. As the threat landscape evolves and threats become smarter and more effective in bypassing traditional defenses, deception technology has emerged as an important and innovative approach to detecting advanced attacks inside the network.

In the Gartner research note “Emerging Technology Analysis: Deception Techniques and Technologies Create Security Technology Business Opportunities” (published July 16, 2015), analyst Lawrence Pingree wrote, “Distributed decoy solutions offer enhanced detection and stronger fidelity than other traditional security solutions because when an attacker touches a decoy, it is immediately recognized as an unwanted interaction, and likely an attacker or insider threat.”

“We are pleased and honored that DeceptionGrid is validated by esteemed third-party publications such as SC Magazine,” said Greg Enriquez, chief executive officer at TrapX. “This recognition speaks to the growing industry acclaim we are seeing around DeceptionGrid as deception technology experiences increasing adoption in the enterprise. Moving forward, we will continue to expand DeceptionGrid’s number and types of emulations, as well as enhance the ease of deployment and management through Dynamic Deception Operations™.”

“The core of [DeceptionGrid’s] success rests – at least in part – in its ability to emulate just about any environment you can imagine,” Stephenson continued. “In addition to the usual Microsoft and Linux emulations, [DeceptionGrid] includes Cisco, databases, industrial control systems, medical devices, VoIP and storage arrays. The system deploys as a device – physical, virtual or cloud – and is extremely reasonably priced for all that it does.”

Stephenson concluded his SC Magazine review by noting, “The website is extensive and the support options are clearly explained. If you want to get a feel for how TrapX Security works, you can download a free product called Threat Inspector that analyzes memory dumps for sophisticated malware. It runs in VMware. We recommend downloading this tool as it not only gives a feel for the quality of TrapX’s primary tool but it actually is useful, unlike many free ‘try-me’ tools.”

TrapX will demonstrate DeceptionGrid at this year’s RSA conference taking place in San Francisco February 29 – March 4. Demonstrations will take place at the TrapX booth. #S839, in the South Expo Hall.
