SpringSource Announces Partnership with GigaSpaces

Partnership Combines Spring’s Flexibility with GigaSpaces Scalability and Marks the Selection of Spring as the Primary API for the OpenSpaces Framework

San Mateo, CA – February 12, 2008 – SpringSource, the company behind the Spring Portfolio, the leading enterprise Java application platform, today announced a technology partnership with GigaSpaces. The partnership enhances the integration of Spring and GigaSpaces, providing joint users and customers with the flexible programming Spring is known for with the high performance and scalability of the GigaSpaces middleware.

The Spring Portfolio has been downloaded more than four million times and is the dominate platform for enterprise Java applications. Given its market prevalence, GigaSpaces designated Spring, with its open, standards-based approach, as the primary API for its recently announced OpenSpaces development framework (see http://www.gigaspaces.com/News/news2008_01_15.htm).

OpenSpaces extends the popular Spring Portfolio enterprise Java platform and leverages the GigaSpaces eXtreme Application Platform (XAP) for data caching, messaging and as the container for application business logic. It is designed for building highly-available, scale-out applications in distributed environments, such as SOA, cloud computing, grids and commodity servers. OpenSpaces is widely used by some of the world’s leading companies in financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing and the web.

“Given the synergies between both our technology and company philosophies, a partnership with SpringSource just makes sense,” says Yaron Benvenisti, CEO of GigaSpaces. “Spring’s renowned flexible and familiar programming model, combined with GigaSpaces XAP, enables developers to scale their Spring applications indefinitely, while significantly enhancing performance with an open framework, and no code changes.”

“Early Java enterprise choices took an unrealistic one-size-fits-all approach,” said Rod Johnson, CEO of SpringSource and founder of Spring. “There were so many limitations that Spring has successfully mitigated. The partnership with GigaSpaces takes this one step further, delivering a broader middleware solution in support of a scale-out architecture.”

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will engage in technical integration and joint marketing, as well as SpringSource training and support to GigaSpaces developers.

In related news, GigaSpaces recently announced the OpenSpaces Developer Challenge, a developer competition with $25,000 in prizes, which will be awarded to the most innovative applications built using the OpenSpaces framework or plug-ins that extend it.
