Altair-Powered Router to be Rolled-Out in U.S. as well as Several TD-LTE Markets in First Half of 2013
HOD HASHARON, Israel, January 9, 2013 — Altair Semiconductor (www.altair-semi.com), the world’s leading developer of ultra-low power, small footprint and high performance 4G LTE chipsets, today announced that its FourGee™ LTE chipset has been selected by Gigastone to power its LTE-enabled SmartBox® product. The SmartBox® is an innovative all-in-one portable WiFi/LTE router which includes capabilities such as secure file storage & cloud access, content sharing & streaming and mobile power charging.
Earlier this year, and following more than three years of global commercial shipments, Altair’s 3100/6202 chipset became one of the first LTE chipsets to achieve Verizon Wireless LTE chipset certification.
“The use of Altair’s Verizon-Certified chipset shortened our development time and will shorten the deployment time of our SmartBox®, saving us both significant effort and money,” said Michael Wang, CEO of Gigastone. ”The Verizon-certified product is the first in a line of products which we plan to introduce based on the Altair chipset. The maturity and multi-band TD/FDD-LTE capabilities of the Altair chipset will enable us to introduce devices into virtually any market globally.”
Altair is a leader in the global LTE chip industry, with Altair-based products currently commercially shipping into numerous carrier networks around the world in America, Europe, Japan, China and India.
“We are very excited to have been selected by Gigastone to power one of the LTE industry’s most innovative products to date,” said Eran Eshed, Co-Founder and VP of Marketing at Altair. “We look forward to working closely with Gigastone to quickly get this product into the hands of consumers and to continue serving as a strategic partner as they introduce new technology and devices to the market.”
