Event will feature training on Altair’s ALT2150 Mobile WiMAX chipset
HOD HASHARON, Israel, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ — Altair Semiconductor, a fabless chip company developing the world’s most advanced 4G mobile semiconductors for handheld devices, today announced that it will host a training seminar in Taiwan from February 9th-11th, 2009 for handheld device designers. 70 representatives from more than 15 handheld device companies will participate in the event, which is intended to educate Altair customers about Altair’s award-winning, handheld optimized mobile-WiMAX chipset, the ALT2150.
“While Altair quickly moves ahead with its solutions addressing additional 4G technologies like LTE and XG-PHS, we continue to be dedicated to mobile WiMAX,” said Oded Melamed, Altair’s CEO. “Despite the difficult global economic environment, there continues to be a tremendous amount of interest in our WiMAX portfolio and we expect the upcoming training seminar will be valuable for both Altair and our customers.”
The comprehensive training seminar will cover all relevant RF, hardware and software design and integration aspects which are important for developing high-performance, low power and mass producible handheld devices based on the ALT2150. The event will be hosted by Altair executives including Eran Eshed, Altair’s Co-Founder and Vice President of Marketing and Business Development and Mark Rice, Altair’s General Manager for the Americas.
“The number of companies scheduled to attend this training is an indication of the strong momentum in the 4G handheld device market right now,” said Haig Sarkissian, Principal Consultant at Wireless 20/20. “Handheld device designers are seizing the opportunity to study in detail how to design optimal and mass producible hardware and software to maximize the ALT2150’s unique capabilities.”
The ALT2150, which was released in March of 2008, is the world’s smallest and most power efficient mobile WiMAX processor. In October of 2008 at WiMAX World 2008 in Chicago, Altair participated in the “WiMAX Live – Low Power CPE Chipset Shootout.” The ALT2150 not only exceeded a 3G power consumption target, but also achieved lowest WiMAX power consumption in the independently administered and monitored session. Also at the show, Altair was given the Best of WiMAX World 2008 Chip Design Award for the ALT2150.
In addition to its existing products for WiMAX and XG-PHS, Altair is in a very advanced development stage of an LTE chipset. Altair’s LTE chipset, like its mobile WiMAX product, will focus on being extremely power efficient, small and cost effective. Altair’s proven and market leading technology, and existing OFDMA assets, put the company in a prime position to deliver a commercial grade LTE chipset to the market early in its emergence, offering customers and partners the ability to trial and deploy LTE User Equipment (UE) in commercial card/dongle form-factors soon.
