Leading Research University to Give 40,000-Plus Faculty, Staff, Researchers and Students Extranet Access to Microsoft SharePoint Portal.
Fort Lee, NJ, November 28, 2005 – Whale today announced that the University of South Florida opted for Whale’s Intelligent Application Gateway solution to provide its 40,000-plus, faculty, staff, researchers and students secure access to its administrative portal, enabling collaboration and remote learning anytime from any Internet-connected device.
A leading research university, the Tampa-based University of South Florida, has campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland, as well as centers in downtown Tampa, New Port Richey, and Northern Pinellas County. The university wanted to extend its investment in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, which acts as the university’s administrative portal. For the university, with its remote locations, security as well as ease of use was paramount.
“As one of the nation’s leading universities noted for our research it was imperative for us that we enabled our students, researchers and faculty to collaborate from anywhere at anytime,” said Christopher Akin, Assistant Director of Information Technologies. “Ensuring the integrity of information and of our network was paramount for us. Whale’s Intelligent Application Gateway was the only product we found that enabled us to provide extranet access to our portal so we could actually extend it while implementing granular security control based on the user, the user profile and the security of the endpoint. It allowed us to remain compliant with university policy while providing our students, faculty and staff a consistent experience from wherever they were working.”
