Major Online Retailers Shine During 2014 Holiday Season With GigaSpaces Technology

Internal analysis by GigaSpaces shows that eCommerce retailers using its technology platforms achieved notable holiday sales success, despite challenges.

NEW YORK, February 5, 2015 — An internal analysis of the 2014 holiday season prepared by GigaSpaces Technologies finds that retailers using the company’s XAP In-Memory Computing Platform achieved success in surpassing key metrics for online retailing app performance, in some cases despite system performance challenges.

News Facts
Online retailers accommodated peak online traffic, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, by using GigaSpaces technologies to avoid downtime, system glitches and sluggish site performance, all of which typically result in high rates of site departures, cart abandonment and lost sales. Notable metrics from the internal analysis include:

•uptimes of 100 percent
•sales increases of 139 percent
•customer satisfaction improvements of 18 percent
•15 millisecond average response times
Two Examples
In one case, a Top 100 online retailer used XAP to provide access to its catalog and inventory data and achieved its first zero-downtime holiday season in several years. As a result, this retailer delivered a vastly improved customer experience from previous years (achieving an 18 percent improvement in customer satisfaction ratings) and generated a 140 percent increase over 2013 holiday sales.
In another case, a Top 30 US online retailer logged a record-setting peak sales day of $44 million. This was especially notable because that same day the retailer experienced system performance issues caused by an automated hardware failover condition. Fortunately, the retailer’s XAP implementation began automatically relocating application components to standby resources, keeping apps running despite the complications. As a result, consumers continued to shop—and buy—with minimal disruption.

More Details

Technology Overview
XAP is an in-memory computing platform that delivers fast event processing and data access with low latency data processing, linear scalability and high availability across servers and data centers. Online retailers choose XAP to achieve continuous availability from their existing eCommerce computer systems and thereby dramatically improve sales performance and increase customer satisfaction rates for online shopping experiences.

“This internal analysis shows what we’ve known anecdotally for some time: XAP contributes in significant ways to the success of our eCommerce customers,” said Nati Shalom, founder and CTO of GigaSpaces. “Their record-breaking holiday performances underscore not only how well our technology performs but also the value of our service approach. Our support teams worked proactively to make sure all software was updated and that systems were fully tested and prepped for holiday traffic spikes, and we were on alert to handle any unexpected issues. Great technology and great service led to a successful and happy holiday season for GigaSpaces and its customers.”
