GigaSpaces Releases Preview Version Of eXtreme Application Platform (XAP) 7.1

GigaSpaces Technologies, announces the preview launch of eXtreme Application Platform (XAP) 7.1, an enterprise-grade application server for deploying and scaling distributed applications.

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – January 26, 2010 – GigaSpaces Technologies, a leading provider of application middleware platforms for Java and .NET environments, announces the preview launch of eXtreme Application Platform (XAP) 7.1, an enterprise-grade application server for deploying and scaling distributed applications.

“With 7.1, enterprises benefit from a distributed environment that allows dynamic scaling and multiple applications to share the same resources, improving IT efficiency and cost savings,” says Guy Korland, head of GigaSpaces R&D. “On a daily basis, though, it is the developers and administrators who use XAP, so they will most benefit from the improved usability and enhanced monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities.”

XAP is a “build once, run anywhere” middleware platform, providing functions for the entire application stack within a single, end-to-end solution. It can be used within public and private clouds, data centers, and virtualized environments, simultaneously or independently, without a single code change.

Version 7.1 will include a number of major themes, such as elastic data grid capabilities, enhanced querying support, performance optimization of transactional operations, and better troubleshooting capabilities. General availability is expected at the end of Q1 2010.

XAP 7.1 features include:
* Elastic data grid support, which enables users to instantiate a data grid with a single API call and supports multi-tenant environments and dynamic scaling of the data grid capacity in both internal data centers and cloud environments.
* On-demand distributed dump and log gathering – Generates of a complete snapshot of the system’s state on demand, which eases the running of large clusters, monitoring and troubleshooting multiple machines
* Logs view in the UI – While this is already available as an API, it is now within the UI, enhancing the ability to monitor and track a running system.
*Query on nested objects – Allows for searches within nested objects- e.g. query on all the users who live on a certain street, whereby the Street object is an internal field of the User object.
* Transaction concurrency improvements – To speed our data grid, we have optimized our transaction processing mechanism to reduce contention in this area of our code base, which resulted in significant performance improvements of transactional operations (up to 400% in some cases)

“We’re a company based on agile development principles, so we’re releasing a preview version to the GigaSpaces community as part of our standard operating procedures,” concludes Guy. “Because we pride ourselves on being highly responsive to feedback and feature requests from our customers, XAP is ever-evolving, this ‘testing phase’ gives us the opportunity to even further improve these additions.”
