GigaSpaces Continues Investment in OpenStack, Extending Cloudify to the New OpenStack Public Cloud on HP Cloud Services and Rackspace

Newest Cloudify Release Makes It a Snap to Build a True Hybrid Cloud with OpenStack

NEW YORK, Apr 19, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — GigaSpaces Technologies, a pioneer of next generation application platforms for mission-critical applications, announces the integration of its open PaaS stack, Cloudify, with both the HP Cloud Services and Rackspace Clouds. With these partnerships, Cloudify expands its support of the OpenStack Open Elastic Platform initiative and users ability to on-board mission-critical applications in a new public cloud environment.

“Until recently, OpenStack wasn’t really available on a public cloud offering. With the integration of Cloudify with HP Cloud Services and Rackspace, this has changed,” said Nati Shalom, CTO and founder of GigaSpaces. “With this new development it becomes possible to use the same cloud environment and API in both private and public clouds and build a truly open hybrid cloud.”

GigaSpaces worked collaboratively with both HP and Rackspace to extend the Cloudify open PaaS stack to their respective environments. With this deeper integration, users can create a hybrid cloud, using the concept of application recipes and leveraging popular tools such as Chef. Cloudify makes it possible to easily extend new and existing applications between private and public clouds, with zero code changes.

“Platform as a service is the next wave of cloud computing adoption, and Cloudify running on Rackspace’s OpenStack-powered next-generation cloud is a natural fit,” said Ven Shanmugam, Senior Manager of Corporate Strategy for Rackspace Hosting. “We’re excited about OpenStack enabling Cloudify to become a solution in the Rackspace Cloud Tools ecosystem, empowering developers to focus on what they do best — develop apps.”

Furthermore, developers, enterprises and cloud providers can benefit from the new Cloudify release in the following ways:

Developers can:
— Easily launch their stack of choice on-demand.
— Deploy a full multi-tier application stack with a single command
— Automate the development process from a local desktop to a full-blown production cloud.

Enterprises can:
— Build a private PaaS in their own environment.
— Enable applications to burst to a public cloud when additional capacity is required for limited timeframes.

Cloud providers can:
— Effortlessly migrate existing customers onto their new OpenStack cloud without forcing any code change on customer applications.
— Use Cloudify internally to quickly launch new services to enterprise customers.

“OpenStack fits nicely with our goal to bring business-critical applications to any cloud — fast, and at a significantly lower cost, that fits even a small SaaS start-up. That’s why we decided to make it available for free with no capacity limitations and with full application management and monitoring built in,” continued Shalom. “This release is part of our ongoing commitment to OpenStack. We were among the first to provide a PaaS offering on OpenStack, and with this new release we’re expanding it to public, private and hybrid cloud.”

GigaSpaces recently launched the new CloudifySource Community to support the new open source Cloudify product. The community is the single-stop source for all things Cloudify, encouraging participation of developers and users to create a community for — and about — Cloudify, where you can download source code and collaborate on recipes and plug-ins to enrich the Cloudify user experience and ecosystem.
