Yoqne'am, Israel, December 4, 2006 - Wavion, a company transforming the Metro and Rural Wi-Fi market with a new category of access points (APs), and Netlink Technologies, a pioneer in delivering wireless broadband data services in Nigeria, today announced the deployment of Wavion's WS410 spatially adaptive APs to the Nigerian National Assembly complex and Senator's offices in Abuja.
The unique and powerful digital beamforming technology embedded in Wavion's spatially adaptive APs provides extended range and penetration, minimizes dead spots, requires about one third fewer units than other outdoor APs to cover the same area, and provides a high quality network for all the variety of applications enabled by Wi-Fi.
"We are proud to be able to deliver wireless Internet access to the Nigerian National Assembly," said Dumebi Kachikwu, CEO of Netlink Technologies. "Thanks to Wavion's technology and the Netlink network, were able to bring the benefits of wireless broadband access to the National Assembly complex and provide internet access to all its offices and meeting rooms."
Unlike other APs in the market, Wavion's spatially adaptive AP is based on six radio transceivers and six antennas, and employs advanced digital beamforming technology. Based on a custom-designed ASIC optimized for the outdoor environment, Wavion's technology significantly improves the link gain and quality to 802.11 standards-based Wi-Fi clients - such as those found in nearly all recently manufactured notebook computers.
"We're honored to help Netlink Technologies transform the Nigerian National Assembly to a WiFi zone with our powerful and unique digital beamforming technology," said Dr. Mati Wax, Wavion's Founder and CTO. "Our superior performance in terms of range, throughput and indoor penetration has been crucial to the success of this deployment."
Wavion is transforming the metro Wi-Fi market with a new category of spatially adaptive access point. The company's digital beamforming and SDMA technologies are the first and only to resolve the significant performance, penetration and profitability challenges facing metro Wi-Fi deployments. Wavion is privately held and backed by world-class investors including Sequoia Capital, Tel Aviv-based Elron Electronic Industries Ltd., Star Ventures, and BRM Capital. Wavion has offices in Silicon Valley and Yoqneam, Israel. To learn more, please visit Wavion at http://www.wavionnetworks.com.
